Paragliding at Danyang (단양에서 패러글라이딩)

Paragliding at Danyang (단양에서 패러글라이딩)

This time last year we took advantage of a promo happening on our local military base and went paragliding and it was amazing! Me, my husband and our 7 year old all got to participate and the baby got to watch from her stroller. It was a very budget friendly experience (bus ride to Danyang was included) and I would highly recommend it if you’re looking for a fun weekend activity. I believe it started at about 80,000₩‎ per person.

This is a year round activity but I would recommend summer for the best experience. London said she loved it but “maybe next time we’ll come during the summer.” I can honestly say it was fun for the whole family as Millie loved watching everyone run and jump off the cliff. We even got to sit closer to the cliff edge to watch everyone for a while.

That view is insane!

Once your turn is called, they strap in your legs and back and hand you a GoPro to carry. When it’s time “to go” you run as fast as you can off the cliff - and it was hard! Gravity, wind resistance, and body weight all wanted to hold you back. For London, someone stood on either side of her and helped her and her guide run off the cliff. I believe there is a weight limit - possibly 40 pounds, and London was juuuuuust about at it. I saw younger and smaller kids with their families, too. On our ride back up the mountain the guide airdropped our videos and pictures to our phones from his GoPro. This was included in the price and a great memento to look back on.

The drive up the mountain is a gorgeous s-curving road with the best views. If you’re not into paragliding but want to go with your friends, there are a ton of cafes with benches lining the cliff for you to watch. You can even rent a little bungalow to stay overnight! I highly recommend going on a good air quality and sunny day to get the most beautiful views and experience. The whole surrounding looks so fake and picturesque.

One of my favorite things about Korea is how safe and kid friendly most things are. I paraglided first, London second, and my husband followed up the rear. We all met at the bottom and then were driven back up to the top where a guide had waited with Millie and her stroller. If you’re not comfortable with this situation you definitely have the right to speak up and ask for other options! They were incredibly accommodating. I am so thankful that we live in a country that allows my children to experience this level of safety and comfort. (With that said, I understand that this is not just an American situation - there are several countries we’ve traveled to that we have to readjust our mindset and be more alert with our children and our surroundings.)

You can check out my YouTube channel for the GoPro videos of us paragliding. Does this sound like something you and your family would be interested in? Let me know if you’ve been and have any other tips also!
