In the Trenches

Although their popularity may vary from year to year, a trench coat is a classic staple that everyone should have in their closet.

As the weather is warming up I’ve been reaching for mine almost everyday. It is so easy to throw over any piece and can instantly make an outfit look more put together. I bought this slightly oversized one at Uniqlo last fall and I’m still obsessed with it. The material is so lightweight and wrinkle resistant and I love that I can toss it in my bag if I get too warm. Here’s how I’ve been styling mine this spring.

I’ve also been pairing my trench coat with this tote in beige lately and love it! The style is so similar to the Chanel Deauville but at a fraction of the price. It is deeper and not as wide as the Chanel tote and the price is unbeatable. I’m also eyeballing the “jeans” color to pair with white denim this summer. Also loving the update on these Steve Madden Mona “dad sandals” this year. The black and bone color are on my wishlist for spring.

For fashion week, I dressed it up and paired it with Zara cropped leather trousers, Zara black platforms, a suede jacket underneath and a crossbody Hermes Kelly lookalike bag with the most fun chain strap.

As every busy woman knows, there are days that will be so busy that a comfy casual outfit is all we can muster. Throwing a trench coat over a sweatshirt and jeans instantly makes the outfit look more put together. Throw on tennis shoes and mama is out for a day of errands! It’s even a nice topper while biking. It’s lightweight enough to help with the wind chill but not so heavy it’s uncomfortable to ride with.

I also styled it with a white H&M tank, a Zara denim skort, this brown croc bag and Manolo Blahnik Carolyne mules. The trench coat allowed me to wear a lighter outfit without being too cold during the day.
