Nami Island
Nami Island is one of Korea’s most globally recognized tourist destinations and boasts over 3 million visitors annually. Having seen this as a tour option at our local military base, we anticipated visiting for a few hours and moving on. Boy were we wrong - we could’ve spent all day there and even commented how we should’ve booked a nights stay at their hotel or in one of their bungalows.
Once you step off the five minute ferry ride, you’re immediately immersed in a peaceful oasis of trees and wildlife. We set off by foot exploring the beautiful surroundings and eventually made our way around to the bikes. We were a group of 3 families and decided to do the family bikes - highly do not recommend! LOL! Just kidding, however, it was an intense work out up and down hills all over the island.
There are a ton of other activities to do on the island including zip lining to the island, duck pedal and/or rowing boats, sky bike, and a train which all allow you to see the island from multiple vantage points. There’s also a Forest Adventure which includes a zip line, treecoaster, and trampolines for children and adults. Three of the kids and 1 adult did the treecoaster and had a blast!
The island is home to a variety of wildlife and my daughters loved trying to catch the giant rabbits. (Korean word of the day: 토끼 “tokki” means rabbit.) Nami Island is also full of sculptures and tons of artwork from artists all over the world. There are several galleries on the island and cultural events happening nearly every weekend.
If you’re planning a trip to South Korea, Nami Island definitely should not be missed! If you’re a family planning a trip, it’s also common to see Nami Island along with Garden of the Morning Calm and Petite France. However, since we had originally planned our trip over Labor Day weekend we decided to head 45 minutes towards Chuncheon to see LEGOLAND Korea the following day. So many options to fill a weekend!
