Around Pyeongtaek: 4 Places to View Pink Muhly Grass 핑크뮬리 잔디

Every season in Korea brings some sort of beautiful change of nature with it. In the spring you have the cherry blossoms, in the early summer are the roses, but autumn is where Korea really shines. Not only do you have the yellow ginkgo trees and the changing of the leaves to reds, pinks and oranges, there is also the pink muhly grass.

There’s no doubt that this scentless, hay-like grass brings beauty wherever it grows. The flowers of pink muhly grass have a fluffy, cloud-like texture, typically stay in bloom from September to November, and bring in droves of tourists and locals alike to take pictures. Below I’ve listed several places surrounding the Pyeongtaek area to view the pink Muhly grass. Fair warning: just like every other attraction in Korea, I’d recommend visiting most places during the week.

Cafe Mollick

Just 15 minutes from Osan Air Base, I’ve mentioned Cafe Mollick before. Stunning indoors and outdoors, with plenty of seating, this little cafe has a large pink Muhly grass spot set up beside the parking lot this year - you can’t miss it from the road. On the opposite side of the parking lot is a large wildflower patch as well! Make sure you check out both buildings and the space out back! Plenty of parking, they open at 12:00 and they’re closed on Wednesday. You can find more information on their instagram.

Cafe Leesooop

Technically not located in Pyeongtaek itself, Cafe Leesooop is in Cheonan and a quick drive from Camp Humphrey’s. I discovered this cafe earlier this year when I was looking for local cherry blossom cafes near my favorite thrift store. This cafe is set back off the road and I honestly thought I was lost at first. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating this space - from the glass building, to the many areas of outdoor seating that while public still seem intimate, this cafe is one to put on your list any time of year.

On the day London and I visited, it had rained and the muhly grass was covered in droplets but still so pretty. We showed up around noon and the parking lot was packed but it wasn’t over crowded. With the mix of the wildflowers and the muhly grass, this is beautiful place to sit outside and enjoy a beverage.

Baramsae Village / Sopung Garden

This was our first place to visit the pink Muhly grass in Korea and it is crazy busy on the weekends. Look at how tiny my girls were 3 years ago! They charge an entry fee of 4,000won per person. There are SO MANY great photo locations throughout the field that it doesn’t feel totally overrun with people. If you’re looking to do a photoshoot with the pink grass, this is an inexpensive location.

Of all of the places I’ve listed, this one has the W O R S T parking situation. If you make it here early enough to beat the crowd coming in, you’re sure to get caught in the traffic leaving. I highly highly recommend visiting here during the week.

Anseong Farmland

While I haven’t been to Anseong Farmland for their Muhly grass, I have been other times throughout the year. This farmland is a learning experience center and a theme park. They have animal interactions as well as a few rides for kids.

Also not technically in Pyeongtaek, it is only a 30-45 minute drive from both Osan Air Base and Camp Humphrey’s. This is a hot spot for tourists for their pink Muhly grass and their cosmo flowers. They’re open weekdays 10:00-18:00 and weekends 09:00-18:00. The most expensive option on my list, it is 15,00 won for adults and 13,000 won for children over 36 months of age. They also regularly run promotions on their instagram page so be sure to follow them for any discounts!

You know I love supporting local small businesses so let me know if you have a favorite cafe or local hidden gem with pink Muhly grass in the comments! I’d love to be able to visit and add them to this list!
