What I Packed: Hiking the Haeparang Dulle Trail

What I Packed: Hiking the Haeparang Dulle Trail

Packing to walk the Dulle Gil is different than packing for a long day hike. This was a promo trip to help draw attention to the Dulle Gil so we had specific trails to hike each day and then we would spend the night in a hotel along the trail. I didn’t need to pack cooking supplies or sleeping gear and I would have access to a shower each night. Here’s what I packed!

A HIKING BACKPACK

These come in all sizes and I was lucky enough to find exactly what I was looking for in one of my favorite thrift shops. This bright orange 25L backpack is the perfect size for what I needed. Several pockets are nice so that you can easily grab things like your phone, battery pack, sunscreen, and snacks.

I typically wear an oversize crossbody bag on my daily hikes, not a backpack, so I was concerned with how heavy a backpack would be, but the two front buckles distribute the weight really nicely.

CLOTHING: LAYERS

Leading up to the trip it looked like we were going to get some early fall weather so that’s how I packed. Layers are always important. Each days outfit consisted of: pants/shorts, sports bra or built in tank bra, layering tee and/or also a jacket. All of the jackets I brought were thin and packable so I could throw it in my backpack if I didn’t feel like wearing it. The long sleeves were a great added protection from the sun, but the weather wasn’t cool enough to need them most of the days.

My favorite tennis shoes are the Nike Tanjun. I’ve been wearing this style for almost a decade now, I’ve had to replace my black pair 4x now. They are so comfortable, pretty classic looking, breathable and pretty affordable in my opinion.. If it’s not wintertime, these are what I wear on my daily hikes so this is what I packed for this trip.

WATERPROOF ACCESSORIES / SUN CARE

I picked up a backpack rain cover and a rain jacket from Daiso. I did not pack an umbrella because I prefer being hands free, but it is another option! Most of our hiking was on paved paths or concrete, so running style tennis shoes were all that we needed, however, if we were hiking in the mountains, I would’ve packed my Sorel hiking boots which are also waterproof. Instead, I packed a second pair of tennis shoes in case one pair gets wet. I made sure to pack sunscreen and a wide brimmed hat for more skin coverage. Jackets and long sleeve tees are also great UV protection as well.

EMERGENCY SUPPLIES / FIRST AID KIT

I always have a small set of first aid supplies that I travel with so I grabbed those. Included are different sized bandaids, alcohol pads, neosporin, Advil, liquid bandage and a Benadryl itch relief stick. This time I added blister protectors, Benadryl tablets, a roll-on Icy Hot stick and some stick on heat pads. I also made sure to trim down my toenails. I got tendonitis in college in my left knee and occassionally it’ll flare up, so I grabbed a knee protector to keep in my backpack just in case. I also never travel without a battery pack, especially when I know I’ll be using my phone a ton. This Anker one is our favorite and I only have to charge it every 2-3 days. Depending on the trails you hike, a lot of the dulle Gil run through small towns so having a bit of cash on hand is a good ideas.

SNACKS / WATER BOTTLE

I like what I like for hiking snacks LOL

At any given time, there are snacks in my bag or purse. I brought two small packs of Dot’s original pretzels and peanut butter m&m’s to make my own trail mix. (Don’t mix this up to early as the pretzels get stale!)

We were given a tumbler when we arrived so I don’t need to bring my own water bottle BUT I am bringing my water bottle holder with a strap. I’ve purchased several of these over the years and they’re so convenient for walking hands free. I get mine at Daiso and they’re very inexpensive.

You can read my blog post recapping the entire week here! This trip was a one in a million trip for me and something I won’t forget. I had such a great time and I’d love to make my way around all of the Dulle Gil in Korea at some point!
